FONTEX.TXT:

TrueType Font Explorer Version 1.2 is a utility Applet designed to 
look into the innards of Truetype font files. It will provide:

1) a list of installed fontface names (ie: Brochure) from which the
user can select a particular font for immediate display at any point
size from 8 to 72 points.

2) Explorer will determine (from security tables embedded in the font
file) as to whether the font vendor permits embedding this font in 
your applications without special licensing and, if the vendor does
permit embedding, what are the limits of that permission (ie: read
only).

3) the report generated by Explorer can be printed out or read 
realtime on a scrollable data viewer. Included in these data are
such things as 

a) the DOS filename as developed from the fontface file,

b) a Table Directory listing the specific Data Tables embedded in the
selected TrueType font file, 

c) an Offset Table for each of the Data Tables which provides 
the offset (from start of file) for each table shown, 

d) the length of each table's data packet is also listed,

e) a listing of TEXTMETRICS parameters for the font file selected, 

f) a decoded listing of Panose numbers for the font file selected and 

g) other metric data from the selected file such as otmsSelection, 
Font Box, otmMAC, Font Script parameters, and other characteristics
such as otmStrikeoutSize, etc.

All-in-all, even this second version of Explorer provides a wealth
of information regarding the innards of a TrueType font file ... 
innards  hitherto only available to an individual ready to spend 
hours perusing the specifications (300 + pages), use API's to 
gather that info or willing to break the data out manually via a 
file viewer.

4) this program requires VBRUN300.DLL to operate (available on 
CSERVE).

5) registration fee is $15.00 plus $4.00 S&H which includes your

EXPLORER (currently 1.2) or free upgrade to the next version when
it becomes available. We will continue to break out or decode
additional sections of the file structure only if continued
user interest is expressed by registration.
